I’ve been influenced by the world Religions, philosophies that have been bought to me by my clients. Through experience my knowledge in theology has developed and this has been reflected in the varied techniques and interpretation I have applied to my textile work.
Some of the work becomes an abstract portrait of a client’s life, a spiritual or philosophical journey can be illustrated or interpreted through my art practice. The textiles I use become the governing element to the process, however and I am not completely governed by the original properties. I have continued to manipulate and expand the use of materials and techniques within my work. I use a lot of silk as I enjoy working with natural fibers, these can exhibit some fragility but can simultaneously be very receptive to manipulation. Clients have bought me wedding and prom dresses or personal fabric remnants to recycle in the process. For the illustrative element of my work the main technique I use free is free motion embroidery, this can be a very intuitive and produce fluid lines.
